Social Networks have turned our life upside down

Social networks are now an important part of our lifes, or at least to the ones who have a profile on one of them. Well... actually to that people too if they want to be informed and in touch with their friends because they won't be able to be so. Social networks grab you as if gravity made you check you're profile EVERYDAY.

Of course there are several things you have to think about when you first create a profile in a social network. First of all you have to decide if you are up to having the need of checking on it almost everyday(believe me, it will happen, but don't worry you get over it). And second and most important of all, privacy. You have to know how much you want to share with the world, and we say it right, anything you upload to the internet is capable of been seen by almost anyone with some interest of it. Me for example, when I first joined the "world of social networks" I didn't mind and said lots of things about myself, nowadays I'm much more careful in that field. It seem like when you "get older" you become more picky about you pivate and personal stuff. There is actually an article at The Washington Post talking about how young adults care about their privacy much more than teenagers, and it is quite interesting. You can read this article at the link that goes with this post, but I'm not sure if you have to register to be able to read it.

Social networks it's a whole new world I sometimes wish had never entered, but if you are careful and use them consciously you can get a lot of good things from them and they sure are a huge progress in the times to come.

  1. Hi Lucia!
Privacy is a very interesting topic related to the Internet ans especially to social networks..

It was amazing what happened to me yesterday, I'll tell you. I met some friends in Tribunal (and yes, you were also supposed to come.. ¬¬) and when I was taking the subway to come home again, there was a guy singing in the metro. Ok, until here everything fine. It is kind of normal see people singig in the metro (mostly they play actually very well!) and asking for money. But the the piece of cardboard on which they usually write about themselves had a different text this time: "Search me on facebook", it said.
Of course it was the first thing I did when I was home. It seems to be a professional musician who takes advantage of facebook to promote his work.

  3. HI Lucía and Marta!
Very interesting what you say about "privacy". In general, you can control what you share or not on facebook. What you cannot control and you have to be careful about is what you say or add to the groups you join as a fan... I'll tell you a story about this one day. I promise!

  4. Well yes once you know how to you can control whta you share on faceook but it is not easy to learn how to control your privacy. I'd say they'd better keep people more informed about how to make it private.
Can't wait to hear that story.=)
